Hydro Power
Harnessing water resources to generate reliable electricity.
Hydropower converts the potential and kinetic energy of flowing or falling water into mechanical energy and then electricity. It provides flexible generation, frequency regulation, reserve capacity and, in suitable systems, long-duration storage.
Pumped storage uses electricity to pump water to an upper reservoir and generates when it is released — an energy storage technology, not a net primary source.

Capacity is not generation.
- Installed capacityMW
- The rated maximum output of the plant.
- GenerationMWh
- The electricity actually produced over a period.
- Plant load factor%
- Energy generated against what full-capacity running would give.
- Capacity utilisation factor%
- The same ratio, usually quoted for solar and wind.
- Availability%
- The share of time the plant is able to generate, whether dispatched or not.
- Efficiency / heat rate% · kcal/kWh
- Electricity out against fuel energy in.
